Chilliwack, a city in the country
When people talk about “Beautiful British Columbia” they may as well be talking about Chilliwack. Nestled in the center of the wide, fertile Fraser Valley, Chilliwack is surrounded by mountains, farmland, crystal-clear rivers and lakes. Chilliwack is just far enough from the busy urban landscape to feel like you’ve stepped back in time to a friendlier more relaxed way of life.
Chilliwack prides itself on being a city in the country, but you’ll find all the modern amenities one would expect from much larger urban centres. Shopping in historic Downtown Chilliwack, at the Cottonwood or Chilliwack Malls, or at any of the smaller shopping centres throughout the city, you’ll find everything you need. If you prefer to sip a latte or enjoy a bottle of fine wine with a carefully prepared meal, you’ll have no problem finding one of Chillwack’s many restaurants or cafes to suite your tastes.
Exploring the outdoors is also easy in Chilliwack. Known as a golfer’s paradise, the area’s many golf courses ensure that golf enthusiasts can play a different course every day of the week, all within a short drive. Miles of trails await walkers and cyclists and the surrounding Cascade Mountains offer some of the best hiking anywhere. Local rivers and lakes are teeming with fish for would-be anglers. Or maybe you would prefer to picnic with the family at Cultus or Chilliwack Lake. Whatever you like to do in the great outdoors, Chilliwack is the place to be.
Recently, 50Plus Magazine rated Chilliwack as one of the best places in Canada to retire. Come and take a look for yourself!
